Intern Application and Selection Process

We utilize the AAPIC online application process developed by The Association of Postdoctoral and Psychology Internship Centers (APPIC). As a member of APPIC, we also participate in the computer matching process for the selection of our Psychology Interns.  Please note that you must register for the Match in order to participate in the matching process.  To register, visit National Matching Services Inc. or call (416) 977-3431. Further information about the matching process and online AAPI can be found on the APPIC website .

Completing an application

To complete our application process, please access the APPIC online at www.appic.org .

General Instructions are available on the front page of the AAPIC online, as well as instructions for each separate section of the Application.

What to include with your application

As specified in the AAPIC Online application, please include a cover letter, the summary of personal and educational information, the summary of your doctoral experience, certification by your department clinical director, four essays, a CV, three letters of recommendation (two of which are from persons familiar with your clinical work), and graduate transcripts. We do not require any materials supplemental to the AAPIC online.

We strongly recommend that your cover letter includes:

  • How do you envision our internship program meeting your training goals and interests?
  • What are your expectations for internship?
  • Any long range personal and professional goals

Application Process

To give you an idea about our selection process, we start by reviewing your submitted application. Of particular interest are your clinical experiences and expertise, understanding of and interest in multiple types of diversity, and letters of reference. The presentation and strength of the written materials are highly important. The committee, comprised of staff members and interns, looks for a good match between your stated goals and background with the training experiences available at our site. Because we seek diversity within our intern group, we do not have a specific profile that we are trying to match. It is important to remember that selection is a process, not merely a checklist of attributes or achievements.

Application Timeline

  • Application deadline is November 1, 2023 (Applications will not be accepted after this date)
  • Finalists invited for Zoom interviews will be notified via email by December 8, 2023. However, you may be contacted prior to this date as we sometimes offer earlier interview spots in December.
  • Zoom interviews are currently planned for the weeks of December 18-21, 2023 and January 2-5, 8-12 2024.
  • Per APPIC, Phase 1 Match Day will be on a TBD date in February 2024.

Initial Screening

We will begin by reviewing all applications through APPI Online. Your application will be carefully evaluated to determine how well your background and experience fit with our program – both in terms of how your goals match ours and how our program might serve you. This initial screening will result either in an email requesting that you contact us to schedule a Zoom interview or an email notifying you that you are no longer under consideration.

Reference Checks

We may choose to call some of your references for additional information.

Zoom Interviews

We will interview selected applicants via Zoom. These interviews usually last approximately 50 minutes. We  try to keep our process standardized for all of our interviewees, as we feel that it is important to give as an accurate a picture as possible of who we are, what our values are, and how we interact with each other as a staff.  While you will have the opportunity to ask us questions at the end of the interview, you will also be invited to follow up after the interview if you would like to speak individually with an intern or staff member.

On-Site Interviews

Only virtual interviews are available for purposes of better assuring equity.

Contact Policies

Informal contact may be made during the selection process to help us clarify your application, but we do not engage in recruiting behavior (e.g., multiple phone calls). CCCPS adheres to all APPIC internship selection policies.

We fully endorse the APPIC policy summarized in the following statement:

"This internship site agrees to abide by the APPIC Policy that no person at this training facility will solicit, accept or use any ranking-related information from any intern applicant."

Match Day: February 16, 2024

APPIC will provide internship sites with information about all ranked applicants and where they were placed. Once matched, CCCCPS will make formal offers per APPIC guidelines.

Our APPIC Member number is 1640. Our NMS Match Program Code Number is 164011. Please note that we will only accept applications that are submitted electronically via AAPI Online.
