The Carruth Center is open, but most of our clinicians are working remotely. We are only seeing psychological and psychiatric emergencies in person at this time. For information about counseling options available to students located in West Virginia as well as students currently outside of the state, please see our COVID-19 updates page.

Doctoral Practicum Welcome Letter

Dear Potential Applicant,

Welcome to our training site! Thank you for considering the Carruth Center for Psychological and Psychiatric Services (CCPPS) as a potential practicum placement opportunity. CCPPS is an advanced practicum site for doctoral students in Counseling and Clinical Psychology. Practicum counselors gain experience, training, and knowledge in various clinical activities typical of a university counseling center, as well as further develop their ability to function as competent, effective, and ethical therapists.

Each year, CCPPS offers three Graduate Assistantships and several Practicum placements. These numbers may change yearly depending on funding, available space at our center and the overall quality of the applicant pool.

Graduate Assistantships come with stipends, are for 20 hours per week, and are generally intended for more experienced students. Practicum placements are unpaid, for 16 hours per week. You will find information about the application process under How to Apply.

We realize how important finding the best fit for your training needs is and how stressful that search and application process can be. Because of this, we want to make this process as easy as possible. Feel free to explore our site.

Please feel free to contact us at CarruthTraining@mail.wvu.edu with any questions that may come up as you explore our site. Whether you decide to apply or not, we wish you the best in finding a placement site for your practicum/internship experience.
