What is it like to work at Carruth? We hope to give you a sense of what your day to day experience can be like.
Working in a counseling center such as ours has several important highlights. You will have the opportunity to work with young adults as they journey through their formative college years. There is also variety to the work that can be done here, be this individual or group counseling, participating in a thriving training program, or making connections and doing outreach with campus and community partners. The ebb and flow of school year provides opportunity to get involved in or develop a variety of unique projects as clinical load reduces during natural semester breaks.
A key feature of Carruth is the opportunity to work as a team with others who are passionate about providing quality care for our students. We have an open-door policy and value consultation as integral to the services we provide. We also feel this fosters day to day connections among staff members which allows for mutual enjoyment of one another and occasional levity to counterbalance the hard work that we do. We start our staff meetings with "gratitudes" to show appreciation to one another at the end of our week.
It is worth noting that working at Carruth also has a certain number of gustatory frills. We are known to have an occasional picnic or pot-luck. Intermittently, baked goods can be located on the premises, be this an over-sized cinnamon roll, a pumpkin bread, or a variety of other delectable treats.
We also strive to be intentional about creating space to have fun together and connect. This can be through a happy hour, partnering with Adventure WV for a ropes course, or scheduling a semester’s worth of “Funches.” To those not initiated, a “Funch” is a “Fun Lunch.” Past Funches include Hot Sauce Tasting, Sharing Pictures of your Pet, Taco Tuesday, Favorite 90’s Music Video, Board Games, Ice Cream Sundae bar, and more.
