Outreach and Events

We provide information and awareness in the areas of mental health and psychological concerns. Sometimes this is within a partnership with other University departments and student groups; other times this is a program of our own.  Please check out the following programs:

Spring 2024 EVENTS

Pottery on the Green 

Come celebrate Earth Day on the Mountainlair Green with Carruth and other campus partners with some fun wellness activities including practicing your pottery wheel skills. Stop by and grab some goodies and hang out with us in the sunshine.

Summer 2024 EVENTS

Grad Student Bike & Banter Join the Carruth Center and Adventure West Virginia this summer for a weekly bike ride! All abilities are welcome, but you should be comfortable on a bike. We’ll meet at the Morgantown Adventure Outfitters, then ride along the Mon River Trail or head up Decker’s Creek every Thursday from May 16th – August 1st (except July 4th) from 3:00 – 5:00 PM. Rides are designed for graduate students to explore outdoors and build community in Morgantown. Family friendly dates include 5/30, 6/27, and 8/1.

Bike and helmet rentals are free for WVU students, after a refundable $5 registration fee.

Outdoor Socials

Hanging in Morgantown over the summer and looking to connect with fellow Mountaineers in the outdoors? The Carruth Center and Adventure West Virginia have the program for you! Join us every Friday from May 17th through August 2nd (except July 5th) at Morgantown Adventure Outfitters for weekly outings. Each week, participants will decide if we’re biking, kayaking, or walking along the Mon River Trail or Decker’s Creek. All abilities welcome!

Equipment rentals are free for WVU students, after a refundable $5 registration fee.

Let's Chat provides easy access to informal, drop-in consultation with counselors from Carruth. Meetings are free, one-time, and no longer than 20 minutes. No appointment necessary: students are seen on a first-come, first service-basis.

Online Mental Health Screening

General Online Mental Health Screenings  are anonymous screenings on several areas of mental health, including depression, anxiety, academic distress, eating concerns, frustration level, family stress, and alcohol use.

The Carruth Center staff can provide topic specific presentations to students, faculty and staff. Additionally,  Carruth staff members are available to support campus wide events.

Wellbeing and Mental Health Student Advisory Board

The  WVU Wellbeing and Mental Health Student Advisory Board (WMHSAB)  was created in order to bridge the gap between students and University administration with regard to wellbeing and mental health on campus.

Mental Health 101 Training

This 90 minute training, available to WVU faculty/staff and WVU students, will teach participants warning signs of distress and appropriate ways to communicate, listen and provide helpful resources. The training will also provide space for participants to practice safe communication with people in distress.
