Therapeutic Orientation
I use a person-centered and trauma-informed approach to better understand the circumstances that have led an individual to where they are today, then work collaboratively on recovery, primarily using Mindfulness, Self-Compassion, Assertiveness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and the Community Resiliency Model.
Clinical Interests
I have special interest in and experience working with clients dealing with Anxiety and related disorders, Trauma, and ADHD and those navigating relationships and finding their fit. I also enjoy providing supervision to provisionally licensed therapists. After beginning my job at the Carruth Center, I discovered that I love working with students at this unique time in their lives and working together as they explore their passions and purpose in life.
Bio
I was raised in Charleston, then left West Virginia for 20 years to live, go to school and work in Ohio, Montana, and North Carolina before returning to West Virginia to work at WVU. I am so happy to be back in a place that truly feels like home. When friends told me years ago that my style of support during difficult times was helpful, I was inspired to pursue a BA in Psychology and then an MSW so that I could make a career out of supporting others. I have experience working in community mental health centers with people of all ages and circumstances and especially enjoy creating genuine therapeutic relationships with clients where they feel safe and empowered to heal, learn coping skills, and improve how they feel about themselves and their futures.
Hobbies
Outside of work I enjoy hiking, reading, watching football, doing crossword puzzles,
spending time with family, and exploring new places with my husband and our dog.
