The Carruth Center is open, but most of our clinicians are working remotely. We are only seeing psychological and psychiatric emergencies in person at this time. For information about counseling options available to students located in West Virginia as well as students currently outside of the state, please see our COVID-19 updates page.

Layne M. Hitchcock, M. A.

Behavioral Health Therapist/BeWell Coordinator

M.A. in Counseling (Community Specialization), West Virginia University (2012)

Integrative with an emphasis on interpersonal, humanistic, existential, and Adlerian approaches.

Individual and group counseling with specific focus on academic concerns, issues related to relationships, spirituality, and gender/sexual identity, as well as grief and trauma. I am also very passionate about training and providing supervision.

I am not a WV native, but I have been residing in this state for over 10 years. I attended Marshall University in Huntington, WV and played Division I volleyball for the Thundering Herd for almost four years. I transferred my senior year to West Virginia University to be closer to family and finish my degree as a non-student athlete. Playing, coaching, and teaching volleyball while at Marshall University has helped me to further pursue advanced education in a helping profession.

Currently, I am the Practicum Coordinator at CCPPS. I am involved in the training of our doctoral and master level trainees. I love being a part of their professional journey.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two little girls, playing volleyball, boating, and traveling.
