Therapeutic Orientation

My therapy style is intentionally integrative, meaning that I do not pull solely from one theoretical orientation nor use one set of specific techniques. Rather, I aim to understand the client as an individual with multiple intersecting identities and to use therapy “tools” that are most appropriate for each concern. These tools supplement my foundation of interpersonal, feminist, and cognitive behavioral styles. I see the importance of meeting the client where they are and collaboratively establishing realistic goals for therapy. Equally important is attending to the “here-and-now” of therapy to enhance understanding of how past relationships with yourself and others affect present functioning and concern(s). Identity development in terms of clarifying values and needs is also a large part of the work that I do, as well as using a strength-based approach to increase self-efficacy and empowerment.

Areas of Clinical Interest

Autism Spectrum Disorders/ADHD, identity development (e.g. values, needs, self-esteem, meaning-making), 1st generation student concerns, family of origin, grief and loss, student athlete concerns, sex and sexuality, relationship concerns

Bio

I completed my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and worked as a licensed professional counselor in psychiatric residential treatment programs for over a decade. As a behavioral specialist consultant, I collaborated with school districts and families to best meet the needs of students with autism spectrum disorder and celebrate neurodiversity. I am presently completing a predoctoral internship at WVU while working toward my PsyD in Counseling Psychology at Carlow University in Pittsburgh, PA.

Hobbies

I enjoy a good puzzle but cooking is my primary creative outlet, and I am obsessed with shows like Cook’s Country. I am a hiking, nature, and zoo enthusiast, but when it’s cold and dark you can usually find me on the couch, watching a true crime documentary or The Great British Baking Show and cuddling with my cats.
