Therapeutic Orientation
I use evidence-based theories including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) approaches to help students understand the connections between thoughts, actions and feelings and to manage emotional distress in a safe and non-judgmental way. My goal is to help students address overall wellness concerns and to develop healthy ways to reduce any symptoms that are interfering with the ability to complete daily life tasks.
Areas of Clinical Interest
Anxiety, depression, grief/loss, relationship/interpersonal struggles, adjustment, mindfulness, self-care, diversity and social justice issues, LGBTQ+, substance use, and gambling addiction. I am also working on becoming a certified counselor in problem gaming.
Bio
I am originally from West Chester, PA, a borough located within the Philadelphia
metropolitan area. I am a first-generation college graduate and after completing
my undergraduate degree, I moved to West Virginia. I have lived in the
Morgantown area for 22 years and have made the Mountain State my home. In my
free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, reading, listening
to music or attending live music performances, and attending or watching sporting
events.
I have over 23 years of experience working in the mental health field, initially
with adults and children with physical and intellectual disabilities, then with
clients experiencing acute crisis, needing inpatient hospitalization, addiction
specific treatment and/or DUI education. I completed my internship at
WVU Medicine-Chestnut Ridge Center at their partial hospitalization program
and continued in that treatment setting for another 15 years. I have provided individual
and group therapy to clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief/loss,
relationship problems, thought disorders, mood disorders, substance use and gambling
addiction. I have had the opportunity to supervise graduate counseling,
social work and psychology trainees. I also have experience providing clinical
supervision to provisionally licensed counselors in West Virginia. I have been
helping people with problem gambling as an active clinician with The Problem Gambling
Help Network of West Virginia since 2014.
